The official Duolingo English Test channel on YouTube shared video content about how to help you reduce DET anxiety with 07 science-based tips on 1 September 2022. We are happy to make them in words for your reference if you love reading. Let’s explore, prepare, and get your DET Ready today.
1. Lowering the stakes
You should only take the test when you’re feeling best to have the most productive time because the DET is available 24/7, and you can take it three times in a 30 days period. Furthermore, if you can afford it, you should buy a package of 02 tests at $78 because most people achieve higher scores on their second test. We all know that it’s extremely stressful when we sit for the first DET as we haven’t known it completely, so we have another chance to improve our scores with the second test.
If you need a scholarship or similar stuff regarding the DET price, please contact the Duolingo English Test support team.
2. Habituation
Practice makes perfect!
Getting used to doing the test, so practice as much as you can is the only way to ensure your DET success. Similar to IELTS, TOEFL, or PTE, the Duolingo English Test evaluates your four English skills, including Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing. That being said, if you want to advance any skills, you need to spend your time practicing those skills in everyday life.
3. Dispel doubt and raise confidence
Know that you can do this.
The DET is an adaptive test that changes its level depending on your performance. So the more difficult questions are, the higher scores you will get if you perform well. As a result, all test-takers need to focus completely on each question at a time and try their best to get the most out of it.
Some test-takers realise their mistakes after submitting their answers, so they often feel regret even though there is no way to change the answers, which leads to worse results in the next questions. We strongly recommend you let your thoughts go away once you complete any questions.
4. Not feeling judged
Remember that people are rooting for you to succeed.
There are millions of people like you trying their best to get what they want. However, mistakes are unavoidable because we are human, and no one is perfect. Thus, everyone always wishes you the best of luck; if you cannot achieve your desired score, let’s try it again and again until your dream becomes a reality.
5. Redirection of focus
Distract yourself!
When the test day comes closer, we tend to feel more stressed because we are afraid of the coming things that could be difficult questions, a bad result, or unexpected stuff coming from someone while we sit for the test. Whatever they are, you need to relax and find a way to boost your confidence.
You could listen to your favourite song, enjoy your hobbies, or know that everyone fails sometimes is a great way to boost your confidence.
6. Emotional regulation
Use physical relaxation to relax your mind.
You should note that proctors also have the same feeling as you do when taking their first test. So feel free to take a sip of water or lower your shoulders to relax your mental health. Besides, you will never get a higher score for each question if you finish it early and move quickly to the next; thus, spending all time you have rechecking your work is the best solution.
One of the major tips is to take a deep breath in and let it out longer to calm yourself. Besides, you can massage your palms or head to feel better during your test.
7. Present-guided thinking
Stay in the moment!
Athletes are great examples here as they entirely concentrate on their current game, no thinking of the future ones and no regret of the past. Therefore, never thinking of your plans after the test or what you had done earlier is the most effective way to stay in the moment.
