How long to improve 20 points in the DET

Many test-takers want to improve their gaps of 20 to 30 Duolingo English Test scores in 2-3 weeks. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE!

If any training centers or individuals suggest that they can help you achieve your DET desired scores (for example, from 100 to 120) in 2-3 weeks, they are frauds  because there is no such thing in this world.

Let’s prove that point with a publish from Cambridge

We have 06 different English levels in the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR): A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2. If you want to boost your level from one to the next, you will need a number of guided learning hours to accomplish your goal.

Nevertheless, there are several elements that can impact how long you need to achieve your goals, including:

  • Your language learning background (How long have you been studying English?)
  • The intensity of your study (the quality of your study)
  • Your age (at different ages, people have different abilities to study)
  • The amount of study/ exposure outside of lesson times (Do you study by yourself after class?)

The table below recommends how many hours you might need to progress each level of the CEFR. Please note that these figures should only be used as a guideline because you may need more or fewer hours depending on other criteria and your needs.

But what is the relation between CEFR and Duolingo English Test?

The Duolingo Official guide for test-takers shows the ranges of scores that correspond to each level in the CEFR, the table below is for your study.

In conclusion, if you want to improve your score from 85 to 105 (20 scores gap), you might need around 100-150 guided learning hours for your goal. Apparently, you need a different amount of time if you have different desired scores and English levels.

“Guided learning hours” mean the numbers of learning under the guidance of a trainer, tutor, or another qualified provider, sources of education, or training as such blogs from training organizations.

In our Online training courses, if you want to improve your scores from 85 to 105, you will need around 24 live training hours (1-on-1) besides guidance from our Academic team to practice on your DET Practice Platform, a specific training schedule on a weekly basis as follows:

  • Live training sessions (03 training hours): Study all strategies to answer all question types better, especially Speaking and Writing questions. Besides, clarify all concerns before taking the test.
  • Correct your answers (~2 training hours)You answer Speaking and Writing questions; our trainer will correct all mistakes based on the same elements that DET evaluates your scores.
  • Practice on DET Platform (14 training hours): Apply all strategies you learn from Live training sessions to practice. You need to practice for around 2 hours per day every week.

Everything is in your Online training package, and you need roughly 8-10 weeks to improve the 20-30 scores gap. According to Cambridge Assessment and our training history, every student is capable of learning 14 hours by themselves and 3 hours every week with us. In other words, you might need to learn around 2-2.5 hours a day.

Back to our concrete point initially, if you want to speed up the process, you may need to study consecutively for approximately 75 hours in two weeks. Are you able to do that?

In case you excel at learning by yourself, you have everything you need in our Blog and Duolingo Test Practice Platform to support your DET preparation. Go to DET Practice Platform, create your FREE account and boost your scores today.
