There are several obligations of the Duolingo English Test that test-takers need to follow if they don’t want their results to be uncertified. Nevertheless, the DET is a new English proficiency test, and it’s a 100 percent online test, so test-takers have faced many problems so far.

1. Looking away from the screen
This is the easiest broken rule of the DET because a ton of test-takers cannot keep their heads in one place for long. They mostly move their heads around after several minutes to relax, and it’s completely normal. Again, because the DET is an online English proficiency test, so they create strict rules to maintain the integrity of your English-certified results. Therefore, if you look away from your screen for just 02 seconds, your test will be uncertified.

What if you cannot type without looking at your keyboard? You should not worry because you can glance (look quickly) at your keyboard and get your eyes back to your screen.
2. Using external programs
Before you run the Duolingo English Test application to take the test, please kindly check and close all external programs (bakground programs or applications). Some test-takers don’t use external programs but keep them running automatically, and this is the reason why they cannot get their certified results.

3. Not alone in a quiet, private room
This is the most unexpected situation because test-takers don’t think people would get in your room. Whatever the reasons, you ought to inform your family members, housemates, or anyone who lives in the same house that you will be taking the DET during a specific time and ask them not to interfere.

4. Using prepared or memorized answers
If you try to use prepared or memorized answers, the DET will know immediately through your facial expression and eyes. Even though the Duolingo English Test is an online one, there are proctors reviewing your test after you submit it. That being said, there is no way you can treat by using prepared answers.

DET, IELTS, TOEFL, or any other English proficiency tests; are designed to test your English skills. As a result, using prepared or memorized answers is highly prohibited because it doesn’t prove your real English proficiency.
5. Using any outside reference material
Notebooks, tablets, smartphones, or even pens are outside reference materials. Consequently, your test will not be certified if you identify you used any outside reference material on your test day.
